The Educated Student

                In response to the chapter “The Educated Student: Global Citizen or Global Consumer. I believe that if a corporation wants to spend the money and the time to make a commercial and post it on television or the internet that they have a right to do so. America is really about being able to have a business and to advertise for it any way so that business thrives and becomes successful. If any business is willing to spend the money to make the commercial and air it on television, or the internet it is their right to do so. Most of the funding for the television shows and the broadcasts comes from the commercials.            Channel one has the same idea in order to pay for their program they gain money through the advertisers if there were no advertisers on channel one then the schools instead of being able to save money by channel one giving them equipment would have to spend more money for channel one to be able to broadcast at all. Channel one’s advertisers pay not only for the broadcast but also for the equipment that the schools receive for showing their three minutes of advertising during a twenty-five minute program. Channel one does not ask anymore than normal television. In fact at my school we were able to watch in the morning before classes began so channel one did not take up any class time at all not to mention I do not recall any other television station giving schools equipment to better educate students as well.            Although it is true that advertising may be increasing daily I do not believe it is all that bad of a thing. I mean if more people are advertising on television then more companies are doing better and can afford to advertise. This also means that their companies should do better and improve our economical strength. Even if that would not be true there is still one fact every company in the United States has a right to advertise to some extent that is one of the things that makes this country as prosperous as it is today. Not to mention advertising brings down the cost of television dramatically whether it is cable or dish to the consumer.
